Acanthus spinosus (spiny bear's breech) is a member of the Acanthaceae family. This perennial exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterised by its deciduous foliage.
When fully mature, Acanthus spinosus can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 0.5–1 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers a south–facing, north–facing, west–facing, or east–facing aspect and an exposed or sheltered position. It thrives best in chalk, loam, or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
