Magnolia x loebneri 'Merrill' (magnolia 'Merrill') is a member of the Magnoliaceae family. This deciduous shrub exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterised by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy (very cold winter [-20 to -15ºc]) and is hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe, with many plants grown in containers becoming damaged unless given protection.
When fully mature, Magnolia x loebneri 'Merrill' can reach an ultimate height of 4–8 metres and a spread of 4–8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers a south–facing, north–facing, west–facing, or east–facing aspect and a sheltered position. It thrives best in clay, loam, or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
